You know the vibes: We already had our eyes peeled for Lizzo the minute the 2022 BET Awards red carpet began. The pop singer isn't up for a nomination tonight, but she's set to perform at the ceremony.
We don't need to wonder if Lizzo's going to put on a show — she always delivers in that department. But it looks like the "About Damn Time" singer was happy to get the party started on the red carpet. Clad in a shimmery, midnight blue draped Gucci gown with feather trim on the sleeves and hemline, Lizzo was the picture of glamour.
To complement her dress, makeup artist Alexx Mayo created a soft smoky eye with a blended-out warm brown crease. "I really wanted to play into Lizzo's sultry side," he explains to Allure. "The lingerie [vibe of the look] really set the tone for this enchanting bedroom eye." After prepping her skin with a selection of Charlotte Tilbury skin-care products, he painted on a base using the brand's Flawless Airbrush Foundation and Magic Away Concealer, then added dimension with the Beautiful Skin Bronzer in Tan and the Beauty Light Wand in Medium.
For the eyes, he pulled out the brand's Instant Eye Palette in Smoky Eyes Are Forever to build that blended-out, smoky base. Then, he drew on a wing using the brand's Matte and Metallic Super Blue double-sided liner. The rich, metallic blue he used picked up on the color of her gown. Bold, blue liner, as Mayo explains, is an alternative to the traditional black that really makes this look, as he says, "pop." Long, wispy lashes tie everything together.
Her hairstylist, Shelby Swain, created a mullet for the singer that looks like finger waves in the front, and left loose in the back. The real draw here are the baby (or rather, adult), hairs that Swain sculpted into swooping curls that go across her forehead and down her sideburns.
The next time we saw Lizzo, she was at the top of a staircase, clad in the blingingest matching set ever. The singer's long-sleeved crop top and flared, high-waisted pants were covered in a mosaic of mirrored gold, making her look just like a disco ball.
Gone was the mullet and instead, the singer's hair was pulled into a half-up, half-down ponytail that had a soft wavy texture. "wanted to create something really cool, especially since she went for a 70s disco ball theme," Swain explains. The blue liner was replaced with shimmery gold shadow to match the 'fit.
It's been a good night for Lizzo in the fashion and beauty departments — and a good one for us, too, since we got to take it all in.
